Dunedin police have put out a plea for information following a mystery mayday call

Dunedin police have put out a plea for information following a mystery mayday call

The Otago Daily Times is reporting police received a call about 3.30 on Saturday afternoon, from an unspecified location.

Police say they made inquiries and checked a number of boat ramps, including in Careys Bay, Back Beach, and Otago Peninsula, but couldn't find anything.

A spokesperson says they want anyone who may have made the call and is safe, to get in touch.

They say they did locate a boat on Blackhead Beach, but it was unrelated to the mayday call.
