More than 50-thousand dollars has been raised for a man who was critically injured after falling from a Queenstown balcony

Emergency services were called to a holiday home on Frankton Road over Easter - when the glass railing the man was leaning on collapsed.

He was airlifted to Christchurch Hospital - where he remains in a stable condition.

A Givealittle page for the man and his family described the incident as a freak accident while on holiday.

Police inquiries are ongoing, while Queenstown Lakes District Council is also carrying out its own inquiries to assess building safety.
