Police and a fire investigator's at a nightclub on Auckland's Karangahape Road, after a blaze sparked up in the basement early this morning

Fire and Emergency received an automatic fire alarm for the two storey club at 1:40am.

A spokesperson says Auckland central crews found a fire in the basement which was quickly extinguished and the building was cleared of smoke.

Police say St John assessed one person for smoke inhalation.

They say there'll be a police presence in the area this morning as officers investigate the scene to determine the circumstances.
