A month-long challenge is on for people who speak te reo Maori to use the language exclusively...wherever they are, whatever they do

Maori Development Minister Nanaia Mahuta says Mahuru Maori is aimed at normalising the language, so it's heard not only at formal occasions or in traditional settings like marae - but is used to reflect people's every day activities and values.
She says people will communicate in te reo while ordering flat whites, holding meetings, buying groceries and attending their kids' sports games.
People can commit to speaking Maori for the whole month, a week, or one day a week.
Last year more than 600 people registered their participation.
