A Rotorua rest home will go to trial in October - over the death of a resident after a fire

A Rotorua rest home will go to trial in October - over the death of a resident after a fire

WorkSafe has brought a charge against Heritage Lifecare, alleging failings with its smoking policy.

73-year-old Thomas Edward Callaghan died in December 2021.

He died from critical burns the day after a fire, described as a smoking accident.

Heritage Lifecare denies the claim it exposed an individual to a risk of serious injury or death.
