A scene examination's being done in Gisborne after the death of a 36-year-old woman in Elgin

Police found her body on Titoki Street, after reports of a fight there overnight.

Detective Sergeant Daniel Kirk says a homicide investigation's been launched, and enquiries are underway to establish exactly what occurred.

He says police are still looking for those involved, and want to reassure the public they're committed to locating this offender or offenders.

Kirk believes this includes specific groups of people, and says there's not thought to be any risk to the wider public.
