Police are reminding hikers to prepare properly - after a busy Saturday on Mount Taranaki

Police are reminding hikers to prepare properly - after a busy Saturday on Mount Taranaki

Rescue crews were alerted at 4am three people were stuck at an altitude of two-thousand-300 metres - one with hypothermia - and took them to a nearby lodge.

At midday, a person who'd fallen 250 metres was collected by a helicopter with a leg injury.

A fifth person was found underprepared and in distress shortly after - and helped down the mountain.

Sergeant Wade Callander says people should ensure they have the right skills for the route, and pack extra clothes and food for weathering bad conditions.
