Farms and orchards in the Nelson Tasman region have been carved up by floodwaters following severe weather

Farms and orchards in the Nelson Tasman region have been carved up by floodwaters following severe weather

It is still in a local state of emergency with Government officials confirming the cost of damage will be in the millions.

Properties in parts of the Motueka and Wai-Iti Valley appear to have fared the worst.

Rural Support Trust Chair Richard Kempthorne says the river stock-banks weren't built for such unprecedented water levels.

He says the events like them only come once every several decades.
