A protected red billed gull in Kaikoura has been shot by what appears to be an arrow or crossbow bolt

A protected red billed gull in Kaikoura has been shot by what appears to be an arrow or crossbow bolt

It was seen on February 27 south of Kaikoura appearing to fly normally - but DOC says it was likely to be in distress.

DOC is appealing for any information - and says the act is abhorrent.

It says it's unacceptable to kill or harm protected native gulls - and it will prosecute anyone who does.
