Wanaka Police are asking for the public's help after suspicious fires were lit near homes - forcing people to run from their beds

Officers were called to reports of fires lit at Albert Town near Wanaka on Saturday 20 September.

Detective Phill Hamlin says the fires were mere metres away from housing where many people were in bed, and had to run from their homes.

He says significant damage has been caused to telecommunication infrastructure.

Police are keen for information or video footage between 10pm and midnight.
