A warning for property owners hoping to make a quick buck building visitor accommodation

A warning for property owners hoping to make a quick buck building visitor accommodation

A Wellington-based developer has been fined 12-thousand dollars for modifying a Queenstown building.

The person pleaded guilty to converting it from offices to residential units without the proper consents.

Queenstown Lake District Council's regulatory manager Anthony Hall says the prosecution shows just how serious the council is about making sure all developers have the right consents.

He says people deciding to build in a non-compliant manner is both illegal and dangerous.
