    Emergency services are trying to establish what caused a chemical explosion at a Fonterra plant north of Whangarei

    Staff had to be evacuated and several people were injured in the incident. A small fire has been extinguished.

    Emergency crews were called to the incident on State Highway One in Kauri just after 7pm.

    Fire and Emergency shift manager Craig Dally says several people have been treated by ambulance staff.
