South Africa's parole board has granted double-amputee Oscar Pistorius early release from prison

The former Paralympic and Olympic athlete was jailed for the murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp - he'll be released in January.

Pistorius shot the law graduate and model through a bathroom door in their shared home on Valentine's Day 10 years ago.

In a statement, Steenkamp's mother June says she's not convinced Pistorius has been rehabilitated - but said she wouldn't oppose his release if officials decided otherwise.

She didn't attend the parole hearing, saying she simply cannot muster the energy to face him again.
