Kiwi cyclist Dion Smith is rapt to have repaid the faith shown in him by his Michelton-Scott team

Kiwi cyclist Dion Smith is rapt to have repaid the faith shown in him by his Michelton-Scott team

Smith was named leader of the team for the weekend's Milan- San Remo one day classic, and he achieved his goal of a top ten finish, coming home sixth.

He says his team recognised that the 305 kilometre course suited him.

Dion Smith will be back in the saddle again on Thursday morning and also in the Il Lombardia one day classic on sunday, before switching his attentions to building towards the Vuelta Espana later in the year.
