A boost for the Taupo economy - as the largest cycling event in the country takes place

Around four thousand cyclists will take part in the Taupo Cycle Challenge today, which offers nine different events for the experienced and those participating for a bit of fun.

Mayor David Trewavas says they're anticipating a big weekend for the region, after a flat winter.

He says participants bring four-to-five people with them on average, who are more likely to spend money on hospitality and other activities. 11-28-24 1329
