Six months community detention for the man who stole the Upper Hutt Mayor's car while he was at the gym

Twenty-seven year old Brendan Blair McBride appeared in Hutt Valley District Court today to be sentenced for 40 theft related charges.
McBride's crime spree included stealing the keys to Wayne Guppy's Holden Commodore during the mayor's afternoon workout.
Judge Arthur Tompkins says McBride's string of offences followed a regular pattern.
He says McBride would enter gyms, use a variety of stratagem to get past staff, then steal from the locker room.
