Worry over how much earthquake strengthening and heritage concerns are costing the country's local bodies

Worry over how much earthquake strengthening and heritage concerns are costing the country's local bodies

Wellington City Councillors have been briefed about the quake-prone Town Hall, ahead of a decision on its budget next week.

Officials recommend the council faces up to the increased costs, of up to 147-million dollars.

Project Chief Operating Officer James Roberts says there might need to be readjustment of policies around heritage, and quake strengthening.

He says it generates expensive projects.

The council-owned Michael Fowler Centre and Opera House also need strengthening.
