Uncertainty has proven difficult for Ruapehu District Council's financial books
4 November 2023
The Council's annual report shows, for the first time, its actual debt exceeds its set limit, of 54 million dollars.
Council's debt, now at 55 million dollars, went up by 13.6 million during this financial year.
It increased by eight million in the previous report.
Investment in the tourism board has increased but revenue has fallen.
It's likely due to ongoing covid impacts, the closure of Chateau Tongariro, and ongoing uncertainty with Ruapehu Alpine Lifts.
