The Government's decision to extend the timeframe for earthquake-strengthening work has gained support among Local Government New Zealand

The Government's decision to extend the timeframe for earthquake-strengthening work has gained support among Local Government New Zealand

The deadline for owners to bring unsafe buildings up to scratch is being extended by four years.

The Government's also bringing forward a review into earthquake-prone buildings.

Manawatu Deputy Mayor Michael Ford, says it's positive to see Building and Construction Minister Chris Penk listening and acting quickly to make change.

He says bringing the review forward to start immediately is the most important part - because it's very much needed.
