Calls for New Zealanders to take action over their electricity prices

Calls for New Zealanders to take action over their electricity prices

A NZIER commissioned report found the new disclosure rules to see if large power companies are making excess profits, aren't fit for purpose.

The research found the internal pricing Gentailers -- companies that both generate and sell electricity -- are providing, isn't enough to see if prices are being artificially inflated.

Consumer group,NZ Compare Chief Executive Mark Gale says ultimately too many people are sticking to their power provider, no matter the price.

He says if one percent of households switched to a different provider, there'd be around 7 million dollars in savings a year.
