Nelson Airport's given notice to its city council, of a plan to extend the main runway

Nelson Airport's given notice to its city council, of a plan to extend the main runway

Independent Commissioners recommended approving the airport's planning changes for a 163-metre extension in December.

Nelson Airport decided to accept the recommendations in full yesterday.

Its notice or requirement would designate land required for a future northern runway extension and update the airport's noise control boundaries.

Currently, airlines have to offload passengers or cargo in some weather conditions due to the short runway.
