The method allows consumers to to get an item immediately, but spread payments over weeks.

Global payment expert Phil Pomford says the system grew 10 per cent in New Zealand last year, and by 2024 could outstrip card transactions.

He says last year e-commerce grew at the fastest rate in the past five years.

Pomford says Covid-19 has accelerated many trends that were already kicking off.
