Options to address electricity market issues - are being put on the table

A Commerce Commission and Electricity Authority taskforce has offered recommendations this morning.

Some allow for more competition -- including potentially requiring so-called "gentailers" to treat their retail arm other retailers.

Other options are focused on electricity users -- including requiring time-of-use pricing, and better rewarding consumers who supply during peak periods, and industrial users who use less at those times.

The taskforce will advise both regulators' boards in coming months.
