An expectation unemployment will keep rising for the next year

Latest Stats NZ data shows the unemployment rate reached 4.8 percent in the September quarter - up 0.2 percent from June.

Economists had predicted it would land on about five percent.

ASB Senior Economist, Mark Smith, says the economy isn't expected to recover until late 2025.

He says the unemployment rate is expected to rise to about 5.5 percent next year, before falling.
