Latest figures from Stats NZ show the number of filled jobs rose 0.3 percent in November, compared to the previous month.
The number of service jobs rose 0.3 percent, as more people took up roles in international tourism, transport, hospitality, and recreational services.
But both primary industries, and goods-producing industries like construction and manufacturing, saw declines.
Today's numbers are likely to be a blip rather than a turn-around, with unemployment expected to surpass five-percent this year.
