While inflation has been easing, the price of car insurance is still rising sharply

While inflation has been easing, the price of car insurance is still rising sharply

The average quote for comprehensive cover on comparison website Quashed, has increased 41-percent in the past two years.

Average quotes for home and contents insurance have risen 31-percent over the same period.

Business reporter Michael Sergel says prices still vary a lot between plans and providers -- with comprehensive cover for a 2020 Toyota Corolla in Auckland, ranging from 960 dollars, to almost double that.

Adjusting excess and sum insured amounts could cut premiums by a third, while switching to third party can reduce premiums by almost two thirds.
