Business confidence is improving

NZIER's latest Quarterly Survey of Business Opinion has found almost one-in-four firms expect economic conditions to improve.

That's up from about one-in-five three months ago, but things remain tough.

Activity has declined for more than a fifth of businesses this year, and almost one-in-six have cut staff.
