The Finance Minister says the latest unemployment figures aren't the best indicator for the state of the economy

The Finance Minister says the latest unemployment figures aren't the best indicator for the state of the economy

Unemployment has risen to 4.8 percent.

That's below what economists were forecasting, but is the highest it's been in almost three years.

Nicola Willis says as inflation falls, the economy begins to recover, but unemployment always lags.

She expects the unemployment rate will continue to rise in the foreseeable future.
