Eight throwers feature in the 18-strong New Zealand athletics team named for the Birmingham Commonwealth Games

Heaving a hammer, discus, shot or spear appears in vogue.

Defending Games hammer champion Julia Ratcliffe has been joined in her field by national record holder Lauren Bruce and newcomer Nicole Bradley.

Tom Walsh, Jacko Gill and Maddi Wesche contest the shot, while Connor Bell returns from a broken ankle last year to throw the discus and Tori Peeters flings the javelin.
