Cautious satisfaction from Phoenix men's coach Giancarlo Italiano after they halted a three-match losing slide in football's A-League with a 2-1 win over Newcastle in the capital

Impressive strikes from Kosta Barbarouses and Paulo Retre in either half handed Wellington a much-needed three points.

But Italiano feels the Phoenix only showed glimpses of improvements.

Meanwhile - Auckland FC's stumble has proved short-lived.

Coming off a first ever loss - the league leading Black Knights have responded with a 4-1 thumping of defending champs the Central Coast Mariners in Gosford.
