Japan's Hideki Matsuyama has broken the PGA Tour's 72-hole scoring record in winning the opening event of 2025 in Hawaii

Japan's Hideki Matsuyama has broken the PGA Tour's 72-hole scoring record in winning the opening event of 2025 in Hawaii

Matsuyama shot a closing eight-under 65 to win by three strokes from fellow major winner Collin Morikawa.

Matsuyama's 35-under total was one stroke better than the previous record set by Australian Cameron Smith when he won the same tournament in 2022.

Matsuyama - via a translator - says he wasn't content to just try and hold onto his lead on the final day.
