A first win at a Grand Slam in more than four years for a 45-year-old tennis veteran

The seven-time major singles champion has teamed up with a player 23 years her junior - Canada's Leylah Fernandez - for a round one doubles win at the US Open - on Disney Plus.

Playing for the first time together - they've knocked out the sixth seeds.

Williams first played at the US Open in 1997 - five years before Fernandez was born.

New Zealand's Erin Routliffe and Canadian playing partner Gaby Dabrowski are also safely through to the second round - the third seeds notching a comfortable 6-2 6-love victory.
