The Privacy Commissioner says the release of the confidential details of people who have Covid-19 looks like a serious breach of privacy, on the face of it

A spreadsheet shown to the Weekend Herald has information about 19 confirmed cases, including names and birth dates.

John Edwards says he was notified yesterday by the Ministry of Health but hasn't heard from any of the affected individuals.

He says it's very sensitive information.

Edwards says people have been vilified publicly for their Covid-19 status so there's still some stigma associated with it, in some quarters.
