Shane Jones says the country's electricity gentailers hold too much power, and that needs to change

Shane Jones says the country's electricity gentailers hold too much power, and that needs to change

Winstone Pulp is blaming high energy prices for the decision to close its two Ohakune mills, with the loss of 230 jobs.

The Regional Development and Associate Energy Minister says the criteria of an upcoming review in the power sector will involve "structural separation".

He says the power system isn't delivering globally competitive prices, and the regulator hasn't been doing enough to promote competition.

Jones says the Electricity Authority is a "chocolate teapot", that isn't using the powers it has.
