Deep concern for the future of early childhood education, as more teachers look to change career

Deep concern for the future of early childhood education, as more teachers look to change career

NZEI's latest workforce report's found a third of teachers have frequently considered leaving the sector in the past six months, due to burnout and high workloads.

Almost 80 percent say current teacher-children ratios don't meet health and safety standards.

NZEI convener Sally Griffin says changing ratios would improve learning conditions, and allow more one-on-one time.

She says they've seen an increase in children's learning needs since Covid, so ratios need to be looked at more seriously.
