The Electoral Commission says changes that will force voters to enrol before election day won't speed up the counting process

The Electoral Commission says changes that will force voters to enrol before election day won't speed up the counting process

The commission was before the Justice Select Committee today, submitting on the proposed law.

Labour says the bill is anti-democratic - but the government says it will prevent vote counting from dragging on for weeks.

Responding to questions from Labour's Duncan Webb, Chief Electoral Officer Karl Le Quesne says those enrolling in the final weeks will still be casting special votes.

He says their forecasts expect full results within 20 days - exactly the same as the 2023 election.
