An attempt has failed from Jehovah's Witnesses wanting suppression of mention of the church - in the report on abuse in state and faith-based care - being tabled this afternoon

The Christian Congregation applied on Friday to have the section suppressed - until a decision's passed on its appeal before the Supreme Court.

The appeal was aiming to avoid scrutiny altogether.

The Court of Appeal's today declined the application - citing considerable public interest in the report and the appeal's low likelihood of success.

It says the application should also have been made much earlier.
