New Zealand may not be on track to hit it's 2025 Smokefree goal of under five percent, with the national smoking rate not budging this year

Results from the annual New Zealand Health Survey, show daily smoking rates haven't changed from last year, remaining just under seven percent.

Action for Smokefree 2025 Director Ben Youdan, says daily smoking rates for Maori did fall from 17 percent to 15 percent.

He says even if the general population isn't moving, there's substantial drops for Maori, particularly woman.
