New rules for early childhood education come into force today

Changes to the Education and Training Act, create a new Director of Regulation within the Ministry of Education - overseeing licensing, monitoring and enforcement.

Associate Education and Regulation Minister David Seymour says the law puts child safety first, while avoiding unnecessary costs for parents.

The director will handle complaints and investigations, with stronger powers to act when centres breach standards.
