St John has responded to nearly 20-thousand mental health emergencies in the past six months

St John has responded to nearly 20-thousand mental health emergencies in the past six months

Almost seven thousand of those were suicide attempts.

Director of Operations Norma Lane says sadly, it reflects a culture with alcohol and drug issues.

Mental health services received a 1.9 billion dollar cash injection last year, which Lane says she's grateful for.

She says it's much better to have prevention and intervention... before a crisis occurs.
