Health officials are scrambling to contact trace the first confirmed case of a new strain of swine flu in the UK

Fifty human cases of the strain have been reported around the world since 2005, including a case in the US in August.

Meanwhile, the Chinese government is putting its latest surge in respiratory illnesses -- particularly among children -- down to flu and other pathogens.

It's asking local authorities to increase the number of medical clinics that can handle respiratory illnesses.
