Hospitals are gearing up for winter and more respiratory illness

Hospitals are gearing up for winter and more respiratory illness

Australasian College for Emergency Medicine New Zealand Chair, Kate Allan, says more people are turning up in emergency departments - especially children.

She says health staff are used to seasonal changes - and will be preparing for them.

Allan says a lot of preventative work's going on, too.

She says vaccines and other measures - can stop people needing to go to hospital in the first place.
