Significant mental health impacts on Christchurch mosque attack survivors, and their whanau

Significant mental health impacts on Christchurch mosque attack survivors, and their whanau

Otago University research followed nearly 190 of the 250 survivors -- and bereaved family members -- in the first three years, post-attack.

It's found more than 60-percent of people developed PTSD, anxiety, or major depressive disorders -- many suffering combinations of all three.

Lead author, Dr Ruqayya Sulaiman-Hill says the study's lessons are important.

She says it highlights how to service those of differing ethnic backgrounds, and reviews whether our health services adequately supports terrorism survivors.
