Questions, over whether medicinal cannabis is the best treatment for many of the symptoms New Zealanders use it for

Massey University's latest Drug Trends Survey shows it's becoming widely available in this country.

The survey's found the most common reasons people use medicinal cannabis are to treat anxiety, depression, sleep problems, and pain.

Associate Professor Marta Rychert says this is consistent with international surveys.

But she says there is no strong scientific evidence medicinal cannabis actually works, for treating many of these symptoms.
