Researchers are partnering for a clinical cancer trial with a difference

Researchers are partnering for a clinical cancer trial with a difference

Auckland University's Dr Nicky Lawrence and Professor Nuala Helsby have partnered with Auckland Hospital Oncologist Jane So to look into chemotherapy side effects.

About five percent of patients on drug 5-fluorouracil suffer symptoms of heart damage.

Dr Lawrence says it's an old drug, but this research is first of it's kind.

She says they're trying to work out if it's feasible for patients to undergo heart monitoring while receiving chemotherapy infusions.
