Oncology specialists say the availability of clinical trials is leading to an inequity in cancer treatment

A national committee has developed a method of decentralised clinical trials specific to New Zealand.

Dr Nicky Lawrence says trials are primarily focused around urban areas - forcing rural participants to travel long distances to be involved.

She says the decentralised method allows patients to take part through their local specialists.

Lawrence hopes its will lead to fewer challenges for people to access trials - without leaving their support people.
