Cervical cancer screening results faced at a private lab faced two week delays because of a testing issue

Cervical cancer screening results faced at a private lab faced two week delays because of a testing issue

Awanui Labs suspended testing and reporting on HPV samples in March after it found a problem with one of the chemicals used in the process.

Chief operations officer Nick Champness says patients weren't placed at risk and the backlog was cleared by April.

However, Labour Party health spokeswoman Dr Ayesha Verrall says the delays aren't good enough for women in the screening programme.

It follows Awanui Labs losing hundreds of blood tests in transit, after sending them via courier from Auckland to Wellington.
