A number of cheeses are being taken off shelves - which may contain listeria

It includes multiple sizes of French brie and camembert sold by Food Snob and Mon Ami - with best before dates up to 22 September.

The French manufacturer has initiated the recall.

NZ Food Safety's Vincent Arbuckle says listeria has flu-like symptoms - but can be more serious for vulnerable groups, particularly pregnant people.

He says it can cause miscarriages and premature labour.
