A pause in pelvic mesh operations has now reached the two year mark

A pause in pelvic mesh operations has now reached the two year mark

Mesh surgeries for stress urinary incontinence - a common childbirth injury - were suspended in August 2023 over safety concerns and reports of permanent injuries.

The Ministry of Health says three of the four conditions required for a reconsideration of the pause have been completed.

These include publishing informed consent guides, and mandatory clinician credentialing.

The final condition - developing a mesh registry - will be underway in coming months.
