An Auckland business will need to fork out nearly 200-thousand dollars for exploiting migrant workers

An Auckland business will need to fork out nearly 200-thousand dollars for exploiting migrant workers

Shalini Limited has been ordered to pay back more than 96-thousand-dollars in minimum wage and holiday pay owed to seven migrant workers - on top of a 100-thousand-dollar penalty.

The company operates two liquor stores and a dairy.

The labour inspectorate received a complaint into Shalini's employment practices 2017.

It looked into Lifeline Dairy, Grafton Liquor Spot and Bottle-O in Parakai, and found seven employees consistently worked long hours and were underpaid.

Enforcement action had previously been taken against the company in 2016.
